Spelman Summer Program
LASAFAP Scholarship
Smart Start-A 4-year full tuition scholarship to a qualifying college, paid in eight consecutive semesters towards an undergraduate degree; receive a yearly book stipend. Eligibility: African American Louisiana residents who attend high school and who—(a) have a minimum of a B average and ACT score of 19; Plan to attend a 4-year Louisiana College in the fall immediately following high school graduation; Have legal authorization to work in the U.,S.; Demonstrate financial need; Legal dependents of JPMorgan Chase employees are not eligible for the Smart Start Program. HOW TO APPLY: Apply in your senior year of high school; take the ACT/SAT I exam no later than December of your senior year; obtain application materials from their website, www.jpmorgan.com/pages/smartstart; include a written essay, a personal or professional recommendation and academic transcripts with your application; submit your application and financial aid forms to the Scholarship and Recognition Program by January 25th for preliminary screening of all candidates (Note: Without any of these documents, your application will be disqualified). Winners will be notified by the end of April.
Elks National Foundation “Most Valuable Student” Scholarship—Scholarship applications can be downloaded from the Elks website www.elks.org. Eligibility criteria: ACT/SAT scores, leadership and financial need. Scholarships to be awarded at the national level are as follows: 2 First Place--$60,000; 2 Second Place--$40,000; 2 Third Place--$20,000; 2 Fourth Place--$16,000; 2 Fifth Place--$12,000; 4 Sixth Place--$10,000; 4 Seventh Place--$8,000; 482 Runner-up Awards of $4,000. These awards will be divided evenly between males and females. Application deadline is November 2, 2009 at the following address:
