BATTALION S-5
ANNUAL FORMAL INSPECTION TODAY!
Welcome to the Scotlandville Magnet High School Army JROTC Hornet Battalion
Website
Awarded the Honor Unit with Distinction since 6 Feb 2008

The Hornet Battalion Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps has earned a top score in a rigorous inspection by the United States Army Cadet Command. The unit must achieve above a 97 percent score required to earn the Honor Unit With Distinction designation. Less than 10 percent of all high school JROTC programs throughout the country qualify for the Honor Unit With Distinction level. The comprehensive evaluation included a cadet-led Command Staff briefing, personal appearance inspection of the cadet corps, demonstrations of basic knowledge of JROTC subjects, and a drill and ceremonies evaluation. The Honor Unit With Distinction awarded is signified by the Gold Star, which is worn above the right pocket.
It is a common misconception that JROTC's purpose is to train cadets for the Army. That is not true. Beyond teaching about good moral behavior and success skills, JROTC teaches the cadets about the human body and a good way to maintain good health. It teaches personal pride as well. The weekly uniform inspection bleeds out into the cadet’s life, hoping this will encourage cadets to wear their own clothes with pride. It makes them more aware of where they are in life and where they should be. It makes them want to reach your goals and do better than you ever have. We practice drill & ceremony, wear the cadet uniform, and conduct physical fitness training every week. We also have a world-class curriculum and use technology in our classrooms. Our curriculum includes units in Citizenship in Action; Leadership Theory and Application; Foundations for Success; Wellness, Fitness and First Aid; Geography, Map Skills & Environmental Awareness; and Citizenship in American History and Government.
Cadets receive credit for their Physical Education requirements by taking JROTC; effective this year, cadets who successfully complete both JROTC-1 and JROTC-2 also receive credit for their mandatory Health class.
The Hornet Battalion actively participates in a wide variety of competitions, ceremonies, parades, and Service Learning activities that support our school and community. Many cadets find that our Drill Team, Color Guard, Honor Guard, Cadet Challenge Physical Fitness Team, Air Rifle Team , and Command & Staff provide ways for them to enjoy active involvement in a fuller high school experience. Our cadet leaders help plan and run every aspect of our program.
HORNETS LEAD THE WAY, ALL THE WAY!
The JROTC program could very well be a fundamental part of every cadets life should the cadet choose to allow it.

Uniform Policy
Wearing of the uniform is a vital part of a cadet's progress and evaluation during a six-weeks grading period and during the school year. A clean, complete uniform is issued to cadets at no charge. The cadets responsibility is to keep it serviceable and to properly wear the uniform when directed to do so. The wear of the uniform is required, normally once per week, usually on Tuesday or Thursday. The uniform inspection grade constitutes a large portion of the cadet's overall grade and development. To instill pride, respect and responsibility in each cadet, the following policy is established
