 Hornet Battalion Promotion Process:

In the S.M.H.S Hornet Battalion we uphold and honor Army tradition by promoting those worthy, dedicated, and motivated cadets wishing to advance their rank and position within the Hornet Battalion. However we do not promote cadets simply based on leadership abilities. Cadets are tested based on knowledge both curriculum wise and knowledge someone of the rank they are trying to acquire is required to know and cadets must also be able to march either a squad, platoon or company formation. Ranks that are mandatory to be tested for are:

Cadet private- Meritorious promotion

Cadet private first class- Meritorious promotion

Cadet Corporal- Corporals Test

Cadet Sergeant-Sergeants Test

Cadet Staff Sergeant – Meritorious Promotion

Cadet Sergeant First Class- Senior NCO’s Test

Cadet Master Sergeant- Meritorious Promotion

Cadet First Sergeant- Company Grade Officers/NCO’s test

Cadet Sergeant Major- Meritorious Promotion

Cadet Command Sergeant Major - Non testable appointed to only one cadet

Cadet First Lieutenant- Company Grade Officers & NCO's Test

Cadet Captain- Company Grade Officers & NCO’s test

Note: To all students who transfer into the Hornet Battalion you are also required to take a Promotion test, corresponding to the rank you have and you must pass your promotion test or you will be demoted.
