Program Description
The Center of Excellence for Business Entrepreneurship is a full time, four-year academy for students entering 9th grade. In addition to students being enrolled in a sequence of 4 specified business courses over their high school career, they are involved with writing a business plan, junior/senior level business summer internships (qualifying students only), and numerous other business entrepreneurship activities and exposures. SMHS is the first and only high school in the state of Louisiana to offer a high school entrepreneurship program that leads to a career diploma endorsement. The school also has a small business incubator and a school based enterprise where students gain valuable insight into owning and operating their own business.
Program Requirements
This program is open to all students in East Baton Rouge Parish entering the 9th grade. However, students are required to maintain a 2.5 academic average upon acceptance to this program. Student's participation in this program is contingent on their academic standing.
Business Advisory Councils (BEAC)
The Business Entrepreneurship Advisory Council (BEAC) was formed in 2008 to aid the SMHS Business Entrepreneurship program with mentors, resources, job shadowing, internships, and overall programmatic guidance. BEAC is made of local entrepreneurs and business professionals.
