Videoconferencing

Videoconferencing

Scotlandville is proud to have videoconferencing capabilities where students are able to communicate live with college professors, students and teachers from other schools as well as students in all parts of the world.

Geometry teacher, Maurice Barber taught a lesson for students at McKinley and Sherwood Middle schools.  English teachers, Ms. Addison and Ms. Washington collaborated with students and teachers from Glen Oaks and Lee High School while eight of our students read "The Little Engine That Could" to elementary students across the parish and the state.

Magnet Lead teacher, Beatrice Arvie received a $4000.00 grant from Pratt & Whitney to insure that all students and teachers experience learning beyond the walls of their school.

Science teacher, Ms. Mundy and her 9th grade classes will participate in a Desert RATS videoconference with NASA on September 13 at 1:00pm-2:00pm Central with Johnson Space Center. Students will be able to ask and hear from the experts about planning for future missions to the moon, Mars and beyond.

During the field tests, students will learn about many of the concepts the Desert RATS team is working on, including a robot vehicle called the All-Terrain Hex-Legged Extra-Terrestrial Explorer or ATHLETE. With six legs under its body, ATHLETE is capable of "walking" over extremely rough or steep terrain so that robotic or human missions on the surface of the moon can load, transport, and deposit payloads to any desired site of interest.

Math department chair, Ms. Nettles will lead her department into videoconferencing via a NASA training session to insure that all are trained to deliver and participate in videoconferences with their students.
